WAR OF 1812 (1812-1815)

The War of 1812 on the western frontier was conducted up and down the Mississippi River in the Northwest Territory, around the lower Missouri River and in lower Louisiana.

MEXICAN WAR (1845-1848)

President Polk’s unpublished 1846 objective of expanding the U.S. to the Pacific Ocean by incorporating Texas, settling the “Oregon Question”, and buying the rest from Mexico eventually precipitated hostilities along the lower Rio Grande River, the upper Rio Grande River all the way to Taos, NM, and Alta California before the end of the war.
