WAR OF 1812 (1812-1815)
The War of 1812 on the western frontier was
conducted up and down the Mississippi River in the Northwest Territory, around
the lower Missouri River and in lower Louisiana.
MEXICAN WAR (1845-1848)
President Polk’s unpublished 1846 objective of expanding
the U.S. to the Pacific Ocean by incorporating Texas, settling the “Oregon
Question”, and buying the rest from Mexico eventually precipitated hostilities along the lower Rio
Grande River, the upper Rio Grande River all the way to Taos, NM, and Alta
California before the end of the war.
